What to Expect
The Venue: Blind Owl Brewery
I’m not going to tell you what band I saw last time I was at Blind Owl last month—I’m just going to tell you that the band was high energy and fun…just like No Rest 4 The Weekend. I only mentioned that because Blind Owl’s space is fantastic for seeing a high-energy band.
If you want to be up close and personal, you can pretty much get close enough to determine what kind of chewing gum the bass player just popped in. Or, if the scent of Doublemint is not your thing, you can sit across the bar, at the bar, and enjoy.
Speaking of the bar…this may just be a me thing, but when I go to a brewery, I’m drinking their beer—they have great house beers. They have a Märzen that is quite good, a solid Pilsner, but my fav as an IPA guy is their None-the-Wiser IPA.
When it comes to food, I’m not going to say their menu is as large as the former Sears catalogue turned Cheesecake Factory menu…but it is substantial. Last time in, we split some pork carnita nachos. Let’s just say—clean plate club! If you are just there for a couple of beers and snacky foods, it’s the perfect setup.
If you are there for a more substantial meal—they have you covered. Their pizzas are solid. I’m a fan of the Southwest Chipotle Chicken Wrap.
Because either they paid some consultant a lot of money to come up with this pithy statement about their digs, or a few of them sat around writing on a cocktail napkin one night enjoying house beers, here is a pretty accurate summary of Blind Owl…
We are a casual eatery where comfort meets culinary creativity, offering a diverse menu that satisfies all appetites.
Yep, that tracks.
Cheers
The Band: No Rest 4 The Weekend
They had me at Pat Benatar… but then the songs got even more familiar. I’m talking about No Rest 4 The Weekend—a rock cover band that plays all the songs you want to hear and sing along to.
About a year ago, I was minding my own business at 317 BBQ & Taproom when, cutting through the din of friendly chatter, wandering dogs, and kids, came the piercing vocals of Pat Benatar. That got my attention—I better tune in.
No, it wasn’t the Pat Benatar (who I’ve seen live and would put in my top five female vocalists)… it was Virginia Ramey, who fronts No Rest 4 The Weekend. Wowza—who is that, I thought? I happened to be there with my friend Mark Berry of Downstairs Dads and Red-Tailed Hawk. His response: “Yeah, dude—they’re awesome. Good folks, too.”
That’s really what Indy.Local.Live is all about—good people playing the music they love and creating a space where everyone else can have a great time.
And honestly, it felt like the band had ridden to the gig with me, listening to my playlist the whole way. They rolled into U2’s I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For and Foo Fighters’ Learn to Fly… and at that point, I was all in.
